AI Visibility Check

AI Search Visibility Audit for South African Businesses

When someone asks an AI assistant about the kind of work you do, the answer is assembled from sources it can reach and interpret. Submit your website and we will review whether it can be found, read and understood clearly enough to be used — crawl access, content answerability, business consistency, structured data and corroboration.

Visibility foundations are within your control. Citations are not something anyone can guarantee.

What AI search visibility actually means

More South Africans are starting their search with a question rather than a keyword, and getting a summarised answer rather than a list of links. That answer is assembled from sources the system can reach, interpret and trust enough to reference.

Your website's role in that process is narrower than it used to be but no less important. It has to be reachable, it has to state clearly what you do and where, and the facts it states need to line up with what appears about your business elsewhere.

This audit looks at those foundations specifically: not whether an AI tool happens to mention you today, but whether anything on your site would make it difficult for one to understand you correctly at all.

Visibility is something you can influence. Citations are not something anyone can promise. We are careful about that distinction throughout the report.

Reasons businesses ask for this review

  • You asked an AI assistant about your own business and the answer was wrong
  • The answer described services you no longer offer, or missed your main one
  • A competitor gets mentioned in AI answers and you do not
  • Your business details differ between your site and other listings
  • You want to know whether AI crawlers can reach your site at all
  • Your site is built in a way that may be hard for machines to read
  • You are planning content and want it to be usable by AI-assisted search
  • You would simply like to understand what is actually within your control

What we review

Crawlability and access

Whether search and AI crawlers can reach your pages, and what your site currently allows or blocks — deliberately or by accident.

Indexability and reachability

Whether the pages that matter are discoverable through navigation, sitemaps and internal links rather than existing in isolation.

Answerability of content

Whether your pages answer the practical questions a customer would ask, directly and near the top, instead of burying them in marketing prose.

Entity clarity

Whether your business name, what it does, who it serves and how to reach it are stated consistently across the site.

Service and location specifics

Whether service areas, offerings and — where appropriate — pricing approach are explicit rather than assumed knowledge.

Structured data accuracy

Whether schema exists, is valid, and describes what is genuinely visible on the page rather than an idealised version of it.

Internal linking and context

Whether related pages reference each other in ways that help a machine build a coherent picture of your business.

Corroboration and trust signals

Whether the key facts on your site are supported by consistent information elsewhere, which is what makes a source usable.

This review covers what is observable from your public website plus the consistency of business information we can reasonably check. It does not include monitoring which AI tools mention you over time.

What tends to get in the way

Assumed knowledge

Businesses often leave out the things they consider obvious: which towns they serve, whether they work with residential or commercial clients, what they explicitly do not do, and what happens after an enquiry.

A person can infer some of that from context. A system summarising your business for someone else is far more likely to omit it or get it wrong.

One page carrying the whole business

When eight services share a single page, there is no distinct, quotable answer for any of them. Systems looking for a specific answer find a general one.

Genuine separate pages with real content give both people and machines something specific to work with — provided they are not eight copies of the same text.

Marketing language where facts should be

“Industry-leading solutions tailored to your needs” carries almost no extractable information. It reads as confident and communicates nothing that could be summarised accurately.

Plain statements of what you do, for whom, where, and how the process works are more useful in both directions.

Inconsistent business details

An old address in your structured data, a different phone number in the footer, service areas listed in one place and contradicted in another.

Where facts conflict, a cautious system tends to state less about you rather than guess. Consistency is unglamorous and effective.

Content that only exists after interaction

Information hidden behind tabs, sliders, accordions or scripts that only run after a click may be invisible to something reading the page programmatically.

Important facts belong in the page itself, not only in the interaction that reveals them.

Schema that describes a different website

Structured data added by a plugin years ago, describing products you no longer sell, hours you no longer keep, or ratings that never existed.

Accurate, modest schema is more valuable than extensive schema that contradicts the visible page.

Nothing corroborating your claims

If your website is the only place a fact appears, there is nothing supporting it. Directories, professional bodies, supplier listings and genuine media mentions all help.

This is the part of AI visibility that most resembles traditional authority-building, and it works the same way: slowly and through real activity.

How this relates to our AI Agent Readiness Test

The two reviews answer different questions and are designed to complement each other rather than overlap.

This audit is about discovery: can AI-assisted search reach your site, understand what your business does, and describe it accurately when someone asks. It sits closest to search visibility work.

The AI Agent Readiness Test is broader. It considers whether an AI assistant could actually use your website on a customer's behalf — navigate it, interpret your forms, understand your process and complete a task such as requesting a quote or making a booking.

If you want the wider view of how ready your website is for AI assistants and future agents, start with the AI Agent Readiness Test instead.

What happens after you submit your website

  1. 1

You tell us the website address and what you would like AI tools to understand about your business.

  2. 2

We review crawl access, content answerability, entity clarity, structured data and corroboration signals.

  3. 3

You get a plain-English summary of what would make your business hard to interpret, and what to clarify first.

  4. 4

If you would like help implementing the changes, we can discuss it. There is no obligation.

What we will not claim

We will not promise that ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Google's AI features or any other system will cite, recommend or favour your business. Nobody controls those outcomes.

We will not sell you AI-specific content that makes your pages worse for people, and we will not present speculation about how these systems work internally as fact.

What we will do is tell you where your website is unclear, inconsistent, unreachable or contradictory — because those are the things that reliably get in the way, and they are within your control.
